Community History

The first board elected by the General Assembly convened on 14 June 1963 and served for eleven months and four days, until 18 May 1964. Dr. Hossein Navab was appointed Secretary General, Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari Treasurer, Dr. Arsalan Taj Recording Secretary and Dr. Mousa Baki-Hashemi Inspector. Dr. Fereydoun Farzin and Dr. Akbar Rashtian also served as board members.

The second board served for one year, from 18 May 1964 to 19 May 1965. Dr. Hossein Navab was Secretary General, Dr. Akbar Rashtian Treasurer, Dr. Arsalan Taj Recording Secretary and Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari Inspector; Dr. Arnold Bernardi and Dr. Asghar Haddad were board members.

The third board served from 19 May to 7 December 1965, a mandate of six months and seventeen days. Dr. Fereydoun Farzin was Secretary General, Dr. Mousa Baki-Hashemi Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Karim Nilforoushan Treasurer and Dr. Mohammad-Ali Sadr-Ameli Inspector, with Dr. Alfred Avanessian and Dr. Jafar Dadmanesh as board members.

The fourth board served for eighteen months and ten days, from 8 December 1965 to 18 September 1967. Dr. Hossein Navab was Secretary General, Dr. Omran Bakhtiari Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Galik Harutunian Treasurer and Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari Inspector; Dr. Sami Vahabpour and Dr. Asghar Homayounfar were board members.

After Dr. Asghar Homayounfar stepped down on 21 February 1967, Dr. Karim Nilforoushan took his place. On the same date Dr. Hossein Navab resigned for health reasons and Dr. Omran Bakhtiari succeeded him as Secretary General.

The fifth board served for seventeen months and twenty-four days, from 18 September 1967 to 17 March 1969. Dr. Omran Bakhtiari was Secretary General, Dr. Alfred Avanessian Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Kazem Simjour Treasurer, Dr. Hossein Navab Inspector and Dr. Karim Nilforoushan Recording Secretary, with Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari as a board member.

Dr. Eftekhari stepped down in March 1968 and was succeeded by Dr. Arsalan Taj.

The sixth board served for twenty-three months and eleven days, from 12 March 1969 to 30 January 1971. Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari was Secretary General, Dr. Mohammad-Ali Sadr-Ameli Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Lohrasb Fararouni Recording Secretary, Dr. Jafar Dadmanesh Treasurer and Dr. Asghar Haddad Inspector.

Board members in this term were Dr. Nikzad Javid, Dr. Karim Nilforoushan, Dr. Ali-Akbar Bahraman, Dr. Hossein Khaksar, Dr. Bogdan Araklian, Dr. Mostafa Seif and Dr. Abdolhossein Ipakchi.

The seventh board served for two years, from January 1971 to January 1973, and its mandate was then extended by seven months to deliver the September 1973 congress. Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari was Secretary General, Dr. Arsalan Taj Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Mohammad-Ali Sadr-Ameli Treasurer, Dr. Parvin Razin and Dr. Asghar Haddad Inspectors, Dr. Lohrasb Fararouni Recording Secretary, Dr. Gholam-Abbas Mortazavi head of the Scientific Committee, Dr. Houshang Shahab-Ferdows head of the Planning Committee and Dr. Karim Nilforoushan head of the Logistics Committee.

In July 1972 Dr. Parviz Azadi replaced Dr. Heshmatollah Karimi as head of the Cooperative Services Committee. By resolution of the General Assembly of 3 March 1973, the board remained in office at the end of its term in order to organise the September 1973 congress.

The eighth board served for two years, from 15 September 1973 to 16 October 1975. Dr. Gholam-Abbas Mortazavi was Secretary General, Dr. Alfred Avanessian Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Karim Nilforoushan Treasurer, Dr. Parviz Azadi and Dr. Asghar Homayounfar Inspectors and Dr. Akbar Darabi Recording Secretary; Dr. Abolhassan Mesgarzadeh, Dr. Jamal Sabouri and Dr. Khalil Taherzadeh were board members.

The ninth board served for two years, from October/November 1975 to October/November 1977. Dr. Arsalan Taj was Secretary General, Dr. Abolhassan Mesgarzadeh Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Khajavi Recording Secretary, Dr. Jafar Dadmanesh and Dr. Karim Nilforoushan Inspectors, and Dr. Hossein Navab, Dr. Mohammad-Ali Sadr-Ameli, Dr. Hossein Tabib and Dr. Alfred Zarifian board members.

The tenth board served from 1977 to 1979 under the presidency of Dr. Jafar Dadmanesh. Dr. Gholam-Abbas Mortazavi and Dr. Karim Nilforoushan were Inspectors, and the members were Dr. Abolhassan Mesgarzadeh, Dr. Firouz Atrizadeh, Dr. Iraj Shafagh, Dr. Yadegar Shahgoldian, Dr. Nikzad Javid and Dr. Parviz Edalat.

The eleventh board served from 20 September 1979 to August/September 1981. Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari was Secretary General, Dr. Iraj Shafagh Deputy, Dr. Yadegar Shahgoldian Treasurer and Dr. Hossein Razi Inspector; Dr. Mostafa Mirzabeigi, Dr. Jamal Sabouri, Dr. Gholamreza Ghaznavi and Dr. Hassan-Ali Khameneian were board members.

The twelfth board served from August/September 1981 to 4 September 1984. Dr. Mohammad-Ali Eftekhari chaired the board until he stepped down in 1982, when Dr. Mostafa Mirzabeigi became Chair. Dr. Hassan-Ali Khameneian was Deputy, Dr. Parviz Amani Treasurer, Dr. Hamid Adeli-Najafi head of the Scientific Committee, Dr. Abdoljavad Rahimpour head of the Services Committee and member of the Finance Committee, Dr. Arsalan Taj and Dr. Akbar Ahmadi-Ardakani Inspectors, and Dr. Fereydoun Jamali and Dr. Hossein Mehrad board members.

The thirteenth board served from 4 September 1984 to 30 August 1987. Dr. Hamid Adeli-Najafi was Chair, Dr. Ezatollah Khamesi Deputy Chair, Dr. Karim-Ali Khazaei and Dr. Hakop Karachian Inspectors, and Dr. Ali Yazdani, Dr. Hassan-Ali Khameneian, Dr. Morteza Safaei, Dr. Ali Alem, Dr. Gholam-Hossein Pouyan and Dr. Siamak Teymouri board members.

The fourteenth board served from 30 August 1987 to 1 August 1993. In the board’s internal election Dr. Ezatollah Khamesi became Chair and Executive Director, Dr. Ahmad Rokni Deputy Chair, Dr. Abdoljavad Rahimpour Treasurer and head of the Finance Committee, and Dr. Karim-Ali Khazaei and Dr. Hakop Karachian Inspectors.

Board members were Dr. Mojtaba Vahid-Golpayegani (Scientific Committee), Dr. Ali Yazdani (Technical and Research Committee), Dr. Kazem Morshedi (editor-in-chief of the scientific journal and head of the Services Committee) and Dr. Morteza Safaei (Public Relations and Publications Committee). Alternate members were Dr. Abdolhamid Arfaei and Dr. Hassan Nakhjavani, and the alternate inspector was Dr. Akbar Ahmadi-Ardakani.

After Dr. Ezatollah Khamesi stepped down, Dr. Ali Yazdani continued as Chair, Dr. Kazem Morshedi as Vice Chair and Dr. Abdolhamid Arfaei as head of the Technical and Research Committee.

The fifteenth board served from 1 August 1993 to July/August 1995. Dr. Hamid Adeli-Najafi was President of the Association, Dr. Bijan Akhavan-Azari Vice President, Dr. Abdoljavad Rahimpour Treasurer, Dr. Akbar Ahmadi-Ardakani and Dr. Hakop Karachian Inspectors and Dr. Gholamreza Ghaznavi alternate inspector. Dr. Hassan Nakhjavani, Dr. Ali Yazdani, Dr. Mojtaba Vahid-Golpayegani and Dr. Mir-Jabbar Arjmand were also board members.

On 28 September 1996 the affairs of the Iranian Dental Society were transferred to the Iranian Dental Association.

The sixteenth board served from 28 September 1996 to 1999. Dr. Abbas Honardoust was President of the Association, Dr. Amir-Hossein Kambouzia Treasurer and Dr. Morteza Ordoubazari Inspector, with Dr. Ashrafossadat Sanei, Dr. Jafar Dalaei and Dr. Akbar Fazel as members.

The seventeenth board served from 1999 to 21 June 2001. Dr. Abbas Honardoust was Chair, Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Treasurer and Dr. Abdolhamid Zafarmand Inspector, with Dr. Mahmoud Safaei, Dr. Ali Kowsari, Dr. Jafar Dalaei and Dr. Amir-Hossein Kambouzia as board members.

The eighteenth board served from 21 June 2001 to 2004. Dr. Ali Yazdani was Chair, Dr. Mohammad-Reza Taherian Vice Chair, Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Treasurer, Dr. Abbas Goudarzi and Dr. Abdolhamid Zafarmand Inspectors, Dr. Abbas Honardoust and Dr. Morteza Nikoubazl board members, Dr. Ali Kowsari and Dr. Mahmoud Safaei-Yazdi alternate members, and Dr. Mohammad-Reza Zokaei-Ashtiani alternate inspector.

The nineteenth board served from 2004 to 2007. Dr. Ali Yazdani was Chair, Dr. Gholamreza Ghaznavi Vice Chair, Dr. Mohammad-Reza Taherian Treasurer and Dr. Abbas Goudarzi and Dr. Reza Mir-Masoumi Inspectors; Dr. Mojtaba Vahid-Golpayegani, Dr. Ali Kowsari, Dr. Ali Tajernia, Dr. Abbas Honardoust, Dr. Amir-Hossein Kambouzia and Dr. Bagher Shahnizadeh were board members and Dr. Mahmoud Safaei-Yazdi an alternate member.

Dr. Amir-Hossein Kambouzia later replaced Dr. Bagher Shahnizadeh.

The twentieth board served from February/March 2008 to 21 July 2011. Dr. Gholamreza Ghaznavi was Chair, Dr. Ahmad-Reza Talaeipour Vice Chair, Dr. Mohammad-Reza Taherian Treasurer, Dr. Mohammad-Hossein Argani and Dr. Naser Akhoundan Inspectors, Dr. Mohsen Amin-Sobhani head of the Technical and Research Committee, Dr. Ali Tajernia Executive Secretary and Dr. Homayoun Farasat head of the Provincial Committee. Dr. Abbas Delavarani, Dr. Mahmoud Jahangirnezhad and Dr. Kourosh Taheri-Talesh were full members, and Dr. Arash Zahedi and Dr. Jamshid Zaman alternate members.

As Dr. Mahmoud Jahangirnezhad and Dr. Kourosh Taheri-Talesh did not take part in the board, Dr. Arash Zahedi and Dr. Jamshid Zaman replaced them. The twentieth board also met jointly with the board elected by the General Assembly of 21 July 2011 until the Scientific Societies Commission of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education issued its licence.

The twenty-first board served from 6 April 2013 to 2016. Dr. Bijan Akhavan-Azari was Chair, Dr. Gholamreza Ghaznavi Vice Chair and Dr. Abdoljavad Rahimpour Treasurer and head of the History Committee. Dr. Mohammad Eslami led the Cultural Committee, Dr. Pouria Motahari the Scientific Committee, Dr. Behzad Farrokhzad served as Executive Secretary, Dr. Homayoun Farasat led the Branches Committee, Dr. Mahmoud Miran the Legal Committee and Dr. Ata Shirazi the Publications Committee. Dr. Mitra Mirmohammadi and Dr. Shafi Jafari were Inspectors and Dr. Amir-Hossein Pourfarid alternate inspector; Dr. Amir-Reza Rokn (Building Committee) and Dr. Ali Tajernia (Membership Committee) served as senior advisers to the board.

Dr. Ali Yazdani and Dr. Bagher Shahnizadeh were alternate members; as they did not take part in the board, Dr. Mahmoud Miran and Dr. Ata Shirazi replaced them in the following election, and Dr. Abbas Delavarani and Dr. Mostafa Fatemi became the next alternate members.

The twenty-second board of the Iranian Dental (Scientific) Society was elected on 10 March 2016. In the internal election Dr. Ali Tajernia became President, Dr. Abbas Delavarani Treasurer and Dr. Saeed Saei Secretary. Dr. Kaveh Seyedan led the International Committee, Dr. Behzad Farrokhzad the Scientific Committee, Dr. Homayoun Farasat the Branches Committee, Dr. Mohsen Amin-Sobhani the Communications Committee, Dr. Arash Zahedi the Student Committee, Dr. Mohammad Parsiyoun the Welfare Committee and Dr. Mehdi Javan the Membership Committee.

Dr. Shafi Jafari was Inspector and Dr. Amir-Hossein Pourfarid alternate inspector.

The twenty-third board was elected in the internal election held on 22 May 2019, which also elected the presiding board of the Iranian Dental (Scientific) Society. Dr. Ali Tajernia became Chair, Dr. Abbas Delavarani Vice Chair, Dr. Homayoun Farasat Treasurer, Dr. Saeed Saei Secretary of the Board and Dr. Mahmoud Miran Executive Director.

Board members were Dr. Behzad Farrokhzad, Dr. Behnam Abbasian, Dr. Mehrab Zarei, Dr. Abbas Delavarani, Dr. Majid Shahbazian, Dr. Amir-Hossein Majidi and Dr. Nazila Shahbazi, and Dr. Kourosh Rahimi was elected Inspector.

The twenty-fourth board took office on 25 May 2024. Dr. Behzad Farrokhzad is Chair, Dr. Behnam Abbasian Vice Chair, Dr. Ardeshir Gholami Treasurer and Dr. Amir-Arsalan Houshyarfard Secretary of the Board.

The board members are Dr. Vahid Akhashteh, Dr. Mohammad-Ali Asayesh, Dr. Setareh Hashemi, Dr. Amir Azmi, Dr. Saeed Saei, Dr. Hadi Salimi and Dr. Soheil Mohammadi-Ghayeghchi, with Dr. Hassan Kazemi serving as Inspector.
